Almost Dawn is a mental health check-in app built with privacy at its core. We don't collect your personal data. Your check-in notes are end-to-end encrypted—we can't read them, and neither can anyone else.
Overview
End-to-End Encrypted Notes
When you add a note to a check-in, it's encrypted on your device before it ever leaves your phone. The encryption key is derived from your credentials—our servers store only ciphertext. We have no way to decrypt or read your notes.
Your Lights see your check-in level. They never see your notes.
What We Store
To make the app work, we store the minimum data needed:
- Your check-in levels (severity 1–5)
- Encrypted note ciphertext (unreadable to us)
- Your Light connections (who you trust)
- Push notification tokens (for alerting your Lights)
Mood trends are computed locally on your device.
Notifications
When you check in at level 3 or above, your Lights receive a push notification. These notifications contain no details about your notes—only that someone they care about needs support.
Data We Don't Collect
- We do not collect personal information beyond what you provide
- We do not track your location
- We do not use analytics or third-party tracking SDKs
- We do not analyze your note content—it's encrypted
- We do not share or sell data to third parties
Your Lights' Privacy
Lights (your trusted people) only see your current check-in level when an alert is triggered. They never see historical data or your private notes.
Account Deletion
You can delete your account at any time from the Settings screen. Deletion is immediate and permanent—all your data, including encrypted notes, check-in history, and Light connections, is purged with cascading deletes. Nothing is retained.
